Soho
loft
Poised on the threshold between conventional rooms
and an open living and exhibition space, all three walls
wrapped by a total of eleven windows, the entry area of
this twelfth floor apartment is abstractly clad in
ceiling-high yellow lacquered slit panels. The panels
slide open to the "dark rooms": study, media
room, master bedroom. Beyond the edge of the dropped
ceiling, the walls splay to emphasize the depth of the
almost block-length space. Lacquered yellow doors, which
separate the artist's studio area from the livingroom,
reappear in the view back to the foyer, foreshortening
the same space that was on first view elongated. The
bathrooms are opposites: abstract stone planes, figured
mosaic walls.
