Dear friend(s), I am a science fiction
writer with cancer (lymphoma) and have one book (science fiction in nature)
written but not yet published. This book is on one side only and is double
spaced with one inch margin all around the page. Most publishers want a small
fortune to publish my book. What I need is someone who knows a source of
funding for beginning writers to get my book published. I am 54 years
old and have 25years with my current employer. I still work each day but there
is at least a 50% likely hood that I will need radical chemotherapy (stem cell
rescue) in January and all my paid time off is almost depleted and my
anniversary with my employer is not till April 3rd. Although I have medical
insurance, I am behind on many medical bills now. I have went through 2
remissions now and my cancer is active once again and as I said my need stem
cell rescue in January. I have many ideas for new stories but no time to
devote to them because of health and money worries. I will open my medical
records to whomever can guide me to financial assistance there and I have a
fully finished manuscript that can be mailed in days if need be in my writer's
grant. If YOU know of anyone who can help me please e-mail me at Irishgent46@yahoo.com
or mccabejm@phibred.com

From the editors to Rom Madsen
Thank you for your letter, we do appreciate your input. We simply do not
select our featured artists based on their ethnic backgrounds, sexual
preferences or skin color. We imagine this may only happen if it specifically
relates to the content of the artists work. Anybody is free to submit work to
us for review and we will select works based on artistic commitment and
parameters more or less as defined by our previous selection process. Thank
you for browsing our pages and please encourage talents to submit their works
for review if you feel they fit in these pages.

Rom Madsen, Philadelphia
Dear das Boot, looking through the last 2 years of exhibitors, I am dismayed
to find what seems to be an exclusive collection of white artists. This
could of course be due to who submits work to you, but I can't help but wonder
how it is that there are no Africam Americans (save one erotic poet), no
American Indians, no Asian Americans and no Latino Amereicans represented on
your site. NYC is full of these precise groups of people who are busting their
guts to do their work and to find a source of recognition for it. Having met a
group of "young lions" with serious commitment to their art in
Philly I can only wonder how many there are in the NYC area that have never
appeared on your site. I hope you will take this under advisement as you plan
your future exhibitions. For instance, there are people of color who have
received the McKnight genius grant who you could profile. And just today I ran
across the Richard Florsheim Fund grants for artists over 60. For people who
have worked all their lives outside of academic settings trying to eek out a
living making often ill-received social art, you might want to consider
devoting some space to these poor (only in $) sages. Thank you in advance for
your time and consideration of my concerns, Rom Madsen

Ali Soltani, New York:
During a certain season in Texas,at dusk, some tree trunks seem to be
phosphorescent... they give off a dull, blazing light. upon close scrutiny it
is found that the trunk of the tree is completely covered with discarded
shells which were the outer body of certain insects. The startling fact is
that the shell is intact; the form is exactly as it was when its original
inhabitant was inside, with one difference. The inside has left, leaving the
outer form which looks like an x-ray, producing the luminous effect. Suddenly
we hear a chorus of sound coming from the dark leaves above. It is the sound
of the insects hidden in the tree in their new metaphysical form. What is
strange about the phenomenon is that we can see the insects shell forms
clinging to the tree, empty shells, a form that life has abandoned. While we
fix our eyes on these apparitions, we hear the sound of the insect in its new
form hidden in the trees. We can hear it but we cannot see it. In a way, the
sound we hear is a soul sound.

Walter Ungerer, Media Artist,
03-00
It was a great pleasure to see Mr Tulcensky's photographs. Being familiar
with his paintings, I was interested to see how he used the photographic media
for personal expression, and whether there was a carry-over of creative
approach from his paintings. I found the sensibility to be the same, but the
representation element added more dimension and depth for me than I found in
his paintings. The aura of solemnity was overwhelming. Thank you Harvey
Tulcensky.

I'm quite
taken by Mr.Tulchensky's beautiful photographs. They leave me
feeling as if
I've walked into a darkened room and I must wait patiently
for my eyes to
become adjusted.Slowly, shapes emerge..some
recognizable..others
not rightaway. Also,a great feeling of
solitude and
contemplation. The feeling in these images seem to stay with you for
sometime after
you think your done looking..

Patty Lin, TV writer Congratulations to Josh Owen. Excellent show. I especially like the knob and faucet lamps.
- - -
Jan ten Broeke, Biomorphic In my naivety I thought I had coined the word with my paintings and ceramics. I love Das Boot's featuring biomorphic interior and architectural designs.
- - -
Alison Schroeer, biological illustrator Josh Owen's work becomes more creative and surprising every year. Furniture that's like living organisms!

Guy Wells [re: Josh Owen] Hope more of the lighting designs can find their way into production. Nice show.

Exceptional work. I would like to see more of this kind of depth in
mainstream products - really high volume production.

and other objects designed by Josh Owen, and look forward
to seeing some of them first hand.

I recently met Josh Owen at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He was a judge
for a student competition. I knew when he shared his subjective criticism that
he was an extremely insightful designer and knew what he was talking about. He
truly is a superb talent. I know he will succeed in his career. I love what he
does!!

I found Owen's design ideas to be very progressive and
inovative. Interactive furniture, and very intriguing

<unknown> For those who are familiar with the work of SHoP, nothing less could be expected. The satisfaction, the pleasure of it if i may speak on my part lies in the affirmation of my suspicions that for the past few years has secretly stalked their passion their dedication their endurance and their consistent aim for perfection ...

Eric Cobb, architect, Seattle
Francine's paintings have a fantastic sculptural, even spatial character
while working within the complexities of a limited set of geometries. There
is an urban complexity to the work, which speaks of New York.
Michael Graves' bar stools are
terrific! The variation in bent radii makes
the process of bending the plies very dynamic.

Tim Tait, designer New York
.... I checked out dingaling.net. Very nice! It was so good to
see such good work and great to see ... Francine LeClercq.
I really liked her work. Everything on the site is such good
quality. Dingaling and das boot make me happy. It's
refreshing to see such a direct offering of living, breathing
artists/designers/architects.

Re: Vefriti February 1999
"Ideas have consequences" words of Dostoevsky is as unheard to
the deafened
ears of the Bureacrats as their fecies that carpets our paths goes unnoticed
to their blinded senses. Ideas require vision without which as it is the
material hallucination of a consuming deliruim, Democracy as the profound
fertilizer of free will and collective consciousness on the other hand, that
is the bored hands of the few to exercise power is a dangerous instrument that
biases comittees over dictators ..
the problem is simply and unfortunately for us the people that cannot escape
the plague of the corporate regime ..
To the imbecilles, i too say: "Clean up your crap .."
To the idiot savants that have disguised themselves as architects, i extend my
congratulations in their detailing of the water tight seal at the base of the
Noguchi's Cube .. and well the rest of course ..
And lastly to the landmark committee so faithfully married to the books in
their due consideration to every so often honour us with their embossed stamps
of their silver clamps , thanx for just working there ..
