This World Stands in the Confused Life of Time Between Light and Darkness as an Effective Reflection of Both

Katrín uses a “Diana” plastic camera to transform her subjects into an atmospheric, dream-like world. Her ‘This world…’ series, which was inspired by a quote by J. Böhme from 1682, began in 1999 when she was living in England next to a 400-year old cemetery.

Katrín Elvarsdóttir was born in 1964 in Ísafjördur, Iceland. After graduating with a degree in French literature from the University of Iceland in 1988 she moved to the U.S. to study photography. She graduated with a B.F.A. from The Art Institute of Boston in 1992. Katrín has focused on fashion and editorial photography, as well as a variety of fine art projects. Katrín's work has been exhibited in Europe and the U.S.; her digitally manipulated Polaroid transfers can be found in the art collections of LEGO and private collections in Europe and the U.S. She has lectured on visual art and taught at the Kolding Design School, Denmark, and the International Business Academy. Photographs by Katrín have appeared in numerous publications: Scanorama (Sweden), IN (Denmark), Euroman (Denmark), Stuff Magazine (USA), “O” (Iceland), and DNR (USA). Katrín currently lives in New York.
