Exhibition Information/press release: June 16, 2002 Revenants/Proximal Dimension Katrin Elvarsdottir and Matthias M.D. Hemstock's exhibit, "Revenants/Proximal Dimension", opens at Galleri Skuggi in Reykjavik, Iceland, June 29, 2002.

The show explores the supernatural side of Icelandic history and nature, mixing photographs of abandoned places with sounds reminiscent of those responsible for their corrosion. The artists' objective is to capture the past of places in a way that echoes the former inhabitants' lives and their remaining but obviously decaying influences. The precise location of the sites in "Revenants/Proximal Dimension" is not directly revealed to the viewer. By drawing on their hidden and often forgotten history, the artists want the viewer to experience these places as someone who is in a state between dream and awake ness; one who senses the supernatural where ever he goes. The show will be open until July 14. Galleri Skuggi, Hverfisgata 39, Reykjavik. Opening hours: Tuesday through Sunday, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
