Icelandic
artist Pjetur Stefánsson shows 10 works on Das Boot:
|
 |
1. It´s all about love.
Simple forms with a complicated inner structure, reminiscent
of the primary symbols of man and woman, as
well as eternity. Love, with it's multiple layers of meaning is both
simple and complex yet closely connected to
the nature of the individual. It is probably one of the most potent
energies of the human spirit. |

|
2. It´s wise to be nice.
In a world of technology and internationalism, man is
engulfed by his surroundings in search for
beauty and balance. We look to the sky, inside of ourselves and
search for this primary spirit that propells
us forward in our search for the core nature of painting. It is wise
to develop alongside it the core in one's
person and exercise humility and kindness. This image is at heart
against war and I am always reminded that
softness conquers the tough. |
 |
3. The family portrait.
A couple of birds carved for me by grandpa place me within
eternity. The wall paper, china and the film
take me back to the Christmas of 1957. By accident the film was
double exposed, placing grandma and grandpa
each in a background as protective angels. The image is used in a
collage and the image transforms my mind to
the genetic research of curent times and the fact that life after
death exists as our children. We need to
envelope our children with a true and good knowledge of life. |
 |
4. Hope for better world.
A hope for a better world is a poem about energies pulling us
each day and how amazing it is to be a free
and healthy person. Also how complicated it is to remain positive up
against forces larger than our life, such as
earthquakes, disease, war. No problem is larger than its solution. |

6. Congratulations on the fall.
The picture is about falling for temptation and finding
salvation through the fall, enabling the sinner to make a new start
through the power of forgiveness.
|
 |
7. Order / Örkin hans Noa.
Iceland is a small nation in the North Atlantic, with a
population of only 280.000 souls and therefore the few inhabitants
have had to develop many talents. This takes order and planning, the
right hand always has to know what the left hand is doing. We have
to be ingenuous, technically minded and open to new developments.
|
 |
8. Remembering vikings.
The culture of the Vikings was an important contribution to world
culture. They wrote the “Poetic Edda” which is an excellent source
of knowledge about the Nordic nations. They were also outstanding
shipbuilders and great sailors. In the old Icelandic Sagas there is
an account of the Icelandic woman who gave birth to the first white
man in Northern America a thousand years ago. This work is about
her. |

9. Golden frame.

surroundings of individuals are dependent upon simple power sources.
